Billing Road Cemetery was opened in 1847 and was created on 9.4 acres of land that was, at that time, to the east of Northampton. This soon became encompassed by the growing town and is now on the eastern boundary of the Billing Road Conservation Area. It was designed by Robert Marnock (1800-1889) and is an example of a style know as a garden cemetery.
Due to the demand for burials, it expanded to cover an area of 13.4 acres and contains over 24,000 plots. The site closed for burials in 2010 and is now owned and managed by West Northamptonshire Council.
