Following the closure of Saron Welsh Independent Chapel, Troedyrhiw in 1983 and the subsequent demolition of the buildings in 1990, the site including the historic graveyard, was abandoned and allowed to become overgrown and derelict. By the time that Friends of Saron intervened in 2009, the situation had almost reached ‘the point of no return’ but our small and dedicated team of volunteers have been working hard ever since towards realising our vision of creating Saron Memorial and Wildlife Garden as a community asset that will be cherished as an important part of the historic fabric of the village.
We are optimistic that remaining challenges can be overcome and that, with perseverance and the support and goodwill of the community, landowner, leaseholder, Council and others, this project can leave a lasting legacy.
