Membership
Membership of The National Federation of Cemetery Friends is open to any individual or group of individuals sympathetic to the aims of the Federation who have an interest in the appreciation, preservation and conservation of cemeteries, churchyards and other burial grounds within the United Kingdom.
There are three types of membership:
Group membership
This is available to groups who have an interest in one or more specific cemeteries. It is the group that is the member, rather than an individual, although groups will be asked to nominate an Authorised Representative who will represent the group and be the main contact with the Federation. The subscription for the calendar year 2025 is £20 for groups with 25 or more members or £10 for smaller groups.
Corporate membership
This is available to organisations that have interests in sympathy with the aims of the Federation. This will include local councils, Bereavement Services departments and others. The subscription for the calendar year 2025 subscription is £10.
Personal membership
This is available to individuals who have personal or professional interests in sympathy with the aims of the Federation. The subscription for the calendar year 2025 is £10.
All members of the National Federation are members of The National Federation of Cemetery Friends CIC, a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee. Each member of the company will undertake that, in the event of the company’s financial collapse, they will be liable for £1 towards the debts. That is the ‘guarantee’ referred to in the name. Other than that £1, members will have no other liabilities in regard to the company.
All members will receive the Federation’s regular Newsletters by email and will be invited to attend, speak and vote at the Annual General Meeting, which is held on the second Saturday in June and is hosted at a different cemetery each year. In addition to the business meeting, members will be able to join a guided tour of the host cemetery and network with other members.
Members will be invited to take part in National Cemeteries Week, an annual celebration of the cemetery movement in which cemeteries will showcase what they have been doing and many will arrange special events of interest to the general public.
Members are entitled to purchase copies of the Federation’s handbook, ‘Saving Cemeteries’ at a special discounted rate.
